GEN TV concentrates on the one industry sector that is generally bypassed by development policy and trainers, that is watched by virtually everyone in the country, and where it is actually possible to build a career - television.
The skill shortages in television and the broader industry are due to the decline of creative television production in Australia in favour of US and UK content now “coming to our screens at a fraction of the cost it takes for the production of local Australian content. This loss of local production has severely diminished the fertile training grounds of the past. This loss of basic training, particularly in the administrative and creative aspects of development and production, has in turn accelerated the skills shortage.
QPIX has answered this knot of problems with one simple evolution in integrated television production and training – GEN TV.
QPIX has cut through to the heart of the matter and set up a large slate of new training programs in television, with a specific focus on the new, integrated cross-platform television of the future.
In so doing QPIX will correctly, industrially prepare our graduates for immediate uptake into the networks and television production companies, or for careers as self-starting entrepreneurs.
QPIX’s training in ultra-low budget production is designed to teach our graduates the disciplines and advantages of limited budgets so they can begin making new cost-controlled, quality, home-grown product that works for the market and still contains a nett margin for them as screen professionals and entrepreneurs. GEN TV will therefore make our local producers more competitive, and will help bring back our much-loved Australian content to the small screen.
