QPIX is proud to announce the launch of their ground-breaking new course for the next generation of TV professionals – GEN TV. The TV industry is evolving and morphing at a rapid rate. It’s expanding into web and mobile content as well as the traditional TV programming. The knock-on effect is that there is a huge lack of professional TV graduates who are skilled and experienced in this new media world. QPIX has moved beyond the redundant, traditional training methods and designed an innovative and industry responsive course that trains through production.
‘We know our prospective students have all the right creative instincts of the new platform,’ says Kerry O’Rourke, Director of Studies at QPIX. ‘They just need the chance to work directly with the new mediums to build working experience.’
Successful applicants of GEN TV will work together as a team to create their own series for web and TV. They will be coached by working industry professionals and will shoot in the field and at the Channel 7 Studios. The team will then repurpose the content for online and mobile. The GEN TV team will also be building the program’s fan base and marketing to the point that the program is a complete package. O’Rourke stated that ‘at this point if the series has the integrity and the capacity to generate audiences, that we think it will then we’ll pitch it to broadcasters. The ultimate aim for GEN TV is a fantastic entertainment series of broadcast quality that will air on TV. ‘
Graduates of GEN TV will get the skills, the experience and the opportunity to network with industry professionals, they’ll also get a nationally recognised tertiary qualification and there is every possibility that if they do a top class job, they’ll get the one thing that the industry values most – a broadcast credit.
Places are extremely limited. Director of Studies, Kerry O’Rourke commented that ‘With GEN TV we want to create quality graduates so we have limited the intake. We want to give this series the best chance for success.’ Applications close on May 11th with the course starting on May 25th and running until the first week of December.
